INTERNET COMPUTING AND APPLICATIONS TO OPTIMIZATION
Jorge Nocedal
(Optimization Technology Center Northwestern University, USA)

Wednesday March 18, 11.00 a.m. CERFACS Conference Room

The Internet enables one to create computational environments in which software and computing cycles reside in a geographically distributed and heterogenous network. There are, however, many obstacles in developing secure, stable and efficient environments that can support large-scale computations. This talk describes the metaNEOS project in which optimization simulations are performed using novel communication tools such as Nexus and Condor. Two case studies are discussed to illustrate the main ideas: weather forecasting using 4D variational assimilation and telecomunications problems.
