Abstract :
This presentation addresses the successes and unresolved issues in the simulation of El Nino-Southern Oscillation with a numerical model of the atmosphere-ocean system. Topics of discussion include the three-dimensional evolution of the phenomenon and its interactions with the Indian Ocean. A realistic simulation is used to examine the relative role of different processes in shaping the event, and to assess the insight into its dynamics given by recent studies with conceptual models.
