Abstract :

The problems associated with the external flows which occur around the motor vehicles and the waitings of the automobile sector in term of control of these flows are successively presented. A state of the art of the indus- trial practices of control is then carried out starting from analytical, numerical and experimental approaches integrated in the processes of development and settling of the motor vehicles. The analytical approaches, based on integral balance of momentum, make it possible to im- prove comprehension of the physical processes attached to the generation of the aerodynamic drag and provide some rules of recommendation for the design and the tests departments. The numerical approaches, based on the reso- lution of the equations of Navier-stokes realised within turbulence models, make it possible to dimension opening, to estimate flows and losses of pressure, to improve the effectiveness of the exchangers or to model the defrosting of the windscreen. Finally the experimental techniques of analysis and control of the flows used in automobile aero- dynamics to reduce the aerodynamic drag are successively presented. The presentation, largely illustrated of industrial exam- ples, is articulated around work published in various national and international congresses.
